character and narative. im glad i get to explore this topic, this is the 2 things that i want out of my illustrations. to be able to create concepts of characters for films and games and what have you, and to be a graphic novel artist. when i here character i automatically think concept, i think development, i think pages and pages of rough ideas. thumbnails. (that excites me..hmmm thumbnails) when i here narrative i think of story, i think of the developments of a story. the story boarding, again thumbnails ( hmmm thumbnails) and also i think of the finishing touches such as inking and developing the story its self.
glyn dillon
. concept illustrator and comic book artist. massive fan of gylns work his career

Lorin wood
i know this isnt character but its concept none the less and i think this screen shot from lorin woods instagram account is perfect example of concept ideas.
Concept art is a form of illustration used to convey an idea for use in films, video games, animation, comic books or other media before it is put into the final product. Concept art is also referred to as visual development and/or concept design.
theres a career in story boarding heres a website that you pay illustrators to create the story boarding. these are rubbish too for 99 quid for a 9 panel page
simon winkins
a well known story board artist
A storyboard artist, or story artist, creates storyboards for advertising agencies and film productions. A storyboard artist visualizes stories and sketches frames of the story on paper
for the starting point iv decided to choose the character and narrative i feel that these are the most appropriate for my practice. iv already got an interest in this area in illustration, iv all ready got an idea of direction i want to take this project. i want to take it to the concept world. id love a project were i can use the things that iv learnt on the about an author project, and the things that i learnt in the first year in visual language. i want to use them with my own knowledge of illustration and come up with a huge body of work...a body of work that i enjoyed creating. and hopfully to get a few portfolio pieces out of it. i want to be the concept artist for this project i want to research, thumb nail, rough, experiment with composition line of sight, character developing. i want to story board stings and gifs i want to make gif and stings of the things i create. i want to go all out on this project!!!! i wasnt to test my self and pretend im making a body of work fr a boss who has asked me to create concepts for something... like films or games or somting. i no we arnt meant to have an idea of what were doing and iv not but iv got an idea of what kind of work i want to put in it.

Gyln dilon.
iv chosen gyln dilon not because hes an idal of mine but because his style and the work he puts into his job is a lot like how i work and how i aim to work in this project. he uses a range of media and styles to get his ideas down and to create a full body of work but get his ideas across.
below are some of gylns concepts. i like the level of craft that has gone into these and i love the presentation of them on the page. again this is what i aim to have a body of work within the project. dosnt have to be poeple or characters just a body of nicley presented ideas at high quality.
below are some of his more refined peieces i imagine these would be to the very end of the concept line. i like to keep the style open, the rough quick stuff is brilliant to get across ideas and methods and the refined things are a brilliant way to show in detail "this is what your getting, this is it"
story boarding by glyn. again somthing else i want to bring to my project.

basicly this guy does everything that i want to do, the same intrest in things. i think this is why im drawn to his work, seeing someone else work in the way you do and they are successful at it makes me think well it is possible to do it because someone else is and its super successful then i can do it too. anyway i chosen gyln because thats the over all i want to do! in a nut shell this is what i expect of my self all the experiments and different medias and styles to createat body of work to present to a fake boss.

searching the net for some of the type of work i want to explore in. came acroos some of these sheets. these are some examples of what i aim to have in my body of work.
full body final character designs like below.

character slide shows. drawing characters in a row. with a blank background lets the characters do all the talking and the characters alone are setting the mood and the scene, all attention are aimed at the characters. this is something i will defiantly be doing in my presentation boards this is a key method to present a nd pitch a bunch of concepts. this is something iv seen in almost everyones concept portfolio.
developments and experiments and decision making.

again more development.

lots of rendered imagesof characters and scenes. this allows the viewer to feel the scene. set the scene.

im looking forward to getting stuck into this brief. i feel this will alow me to work in areas of were i want my illustration to exist in the real world. hopfully this will give me an understanding of what i want to do with it and how, and get me motivated again in what im doing here!.

above is my first idea. my idea is to create a body of work that with in it has research, experiments, character development, location development, digital gifs and stings, story boards presentation boards. my idea is to create a brief that portends i have been hired as a concept artist for a film or game design. to cover concepts for 3 characters 2 locations and 1 story board. the out come for this project is to have the concepts to be presentable. eithe publication. portfolio, digital portfolio, presentation boards. to help give understanding of the concepts (if needed) there will be gifs or stings. also with in the presentation of the work will be refined work of the characers in the location to help set the content of the concepts. there will be one story board that will be presented to help the understanding of the feel that is asked for out of the research.
basically im going to create 3 characters 2 locations and 1 story board and present them in the best and most understandable way.
