Testing out Lino print.

This is my fourth year back in education and I'm kinda fed up of feeling like the grandad who can't do anything practical in the work shops and o oh good with one thing. I know workshops are there to show you how to do things and are there for people who haven't done them before but I'm always that one who hasn't got a clue what he's doing and by the time iv learnt that just got the knowllege to do it it's too late and it's time to submit. So this time I'm going with some understanding and I'll be a step in front of my usual self.

Iv only done Lino once and it was in my first year of access and we only got 2 hours and a half to be told the prosess of the hole thing, what the inks are made from, what each tool does and a 20 min demonstration...that didn't leave us much time to experiment and ask question and have some guidance, to be honest when your on access tutors down there don't give you the time, they don't see you as a serous student. My first Lino was a very badly cut out solid shape woman sat on a shit cut out of a bomb was terrible, but it was my first go.

Iv been in the studio and at home and watched georgie print some awesome prints for her zine. I think watching her inspired me to give this a go and to give me the intensive to practise before my workshop. These are some of the prints that inspired me and I hope that one day I can achieve. Blog shout out to georgie.

So it's my tern to give it ago.

I know that o should do somthing easy for my first go but I'm a strong believer thinking that you don't make mistakes on easy tasks so there's not much room to learn so I decided to do somthing challenging. Like always I decided to do somthing that intrests me and like every grown man it's Star Wars

Here is my prosess.

Drew an at at

then traced the image onto codatrace

I then took it to the cutting pressed the image on to the Lino and then took it to the cutting Matt.

When I was cutting this, I did feel that iv been slightly ambitious but I carried on and can say that iv learnt what effects speeds has with the cutting blade and it can be slippy and can nearly take a finger off.

Final image.

Yeah some of the angles are off and it's proportions are out of whack but if I'm honest I love it, I think it's ace, it's not the best Lino but it came out better than I thought and I can't believe that this grandad made this print. Iv learnt a lot from doing this one print so I can go a little more confidant in the print room and hopefully learn a bit more than I do now.
