illustration friday

this weeks topic is wet

i knew that most of the uploads to this weeks topic would be some kind of umbrella or some duck in a pond and i also know the little who would uplod that kind of stuff would go out and try and be quirky and upload under the sea images with wails as balloons...or somthing stupid like that. so when it came to thinking of somthing my self i was coming up with the tipical things and when i was thinking out of the box i was coming up with some real rubbish.

To do list.

Research inspiration - 1 hour
Thumbnails              -  1 hour
Roughs.                   - 30 mins
Page work.              - 2 hours
Digital                      - 2 hours

i decided to go with the idea of a man in a ship fighting a storm.
here are the thumbnails that got me to the final image.

below. from the first thumb nail i knew that this idea was going to be it, i liked the motion and the atmosphere.

final rough

below. after i penciled the page and was happy with were the image was at i decided to ink it. BUT im really not happy with the way the character has come out. i knew i was trying to force out a style in a comic sense and this shows in this piece. its suffering for it.

the finished image wasn't great at all. i wasn't happy with it. it was one of thouse were you keep working on it and it dosnt come to life no matter what you do it still looks terrible to you. even on the screen it was becoming a pallet of mud. i spent a few hours on the same stage and i was spending far too much time on it and wasnt getting anywhere so i decided to lick my wounds quickly find the final result that i was most happy with and go with that one.
