Studio task Cowboys and Indians

• sketch book work
Noting and experimenting with techniques I will use.

•sketchbook work.

• from this Iv learnt what works and does not. Too much work in areas and too much solid ink can loose the deph of the figure and even the texture. The shirt has no depth looks flat, the arm is lost in the torso.

News article task- Isis

The task was we were given a news artical and we was to illustrate the artical, I got a journal of a man telling the story of how is life and town was effected by Isis.

I knew this would be a challange for me right away, I have no knowledge on the Isis what so ever.

• simple research documentation for Isis

• sketch book ideas for illustrations

As I'm ignarent to Isis war, I feel my illustration of it do show I know nothing about.
More research to be done to look further into Isis and get a understanding of it!

Poster evaluation

Evaluation!

Doing this task gave me the opportunity to explore ink and ink pens. I'm happy with the out come and the amount I have learnt from doing so! I feel I can comfortably produce a illustration using ink!
To get to a comfortable level using this media I researched and followed many artists who specialise in inks. Following there work, and experimenting with there styles gave me the opportunity to develop my skills.
I learnt the hard way that size and amounts can effect the way your work looks. I did a sample piece of the pig lady with a grey wash behind her on a small scale of about 6 by 7 inch. The out come was real crips it made the character Pop and looked pleasing to the eye! I then went a head to add this to my A1 post, adding the grey wash behind all the characters meant a larger area of grey wash was on the poster, witch then cloaked the characters  and made them less sharp and more displeasing. Your eye is attracted to the grey wash.
But I'm still pleased it happened  because now I know when a grey wash works and does not.

My feed back for the poster was extremely help full:-
•The image works well as a hole!
•The characters do look like a community
•The characters would work well on signal flash sheets, work well as a book
• Agree about the grey wash but think it still works well
•Maybe more planning on the lay out would have ended you with a better looking poster

Things I will consider for future reference from this task is I shall make more notes of my time keeping I found my self doing more last Minuit details and touch up in this. Better time keeping may have ended me with a better result. But as hole in happy with my poster I feel it does show a community of People and expresses there living habits and surroundings

Studio task poster

Finished poster! As you can see the grey wash dominates the page! The original idea for the grey wash was to resemble pollution, to save the poster I decided to taper the grey wash out to the smoke from a power station.

Studio task-poster

• work in progress of the poster!
Iv added the grey wash in the back ground, how ever, on a larger area, the grey wash doesn't work as well as it does on a small tester piece.

• this is a scan of a character I did, I scaned the image to be able to experiment with a ink grey wash in the back ground

• I'm happy with the results of the experiment! I think it works well as a polluted back ground! And makes the character Pop.

• close up on one of my characters on my poster

Creating castleford characters

Thought I would push forward the castleford ideas and make characters for each Scenario for the poster!

• the loitering chavs round every corner

• the oldies and there funny accents

• the midday drinkers!

• the every day castleford person

I'm realy happy with this idea of making them animals, indicates that wild side of castleford how most of the people do act like animals..act, eat, and react

Research from castleford for poster

Castleford the place were everyone is negative, grumpy, aggressive and angry. Castleford is so set back in the olden days, it still looks like it's set in the late 70s early 80s it holds the number one spot for unemployment...and the people of castleford think that's amazing!

- the names I call people in this is not me been rude or unprofessional, it's what is used in castleford!

• here is a few sketches observationally drawn from castleford

• people at bus stop oldies and a chav!

• old man drinking tea
• tattooed head!
I wanted to draw this mans head because this by its self just expresses castleford for what it is. ..mad!

• man casuiky drinking a beer at 11.30am
• two youthshaveing a chat about the night with guns on there backs probably ready for rabbiting

• posh chav (expensive tracksuit...probably if back of a lorry)
• street with washer and sofa on the road

Studio brief 1 self-evaluation

How effectively do you think you have tackled the fest part of the brief? Have you been able to exhaust your ideas? How well have you used research to support the development of your ideas? As drawing allowed you to visualise your ideas and evolve then further?

I feel I tackled the the first part of my brief Weekly, I got so engrossed with thinking and researching ideas that related to me and instead I could have used those as a starting point to push it forward to have developed better ideas.

I used a wide range of research for my development. I used the book from the librar I searched the Internet and visited the places and subjects of my ideas. I visited Museums for inspiration for new ideas

The drawings in my sketch books has helped me visualise my ideas a lot and helped me now forward with other themes and ideas.

In light of your feed back, what theme/ideas do you intend to develop into a final deliverable poster? Please describe your intentions for the tone of voice/ functionality of its artwork.

From the feed back, I have two ideas in mind that I can visualise as been a final poster! The life of Neb...doing things that you wouldn't do in everyday life (as suggested on my feed back. And the life of castleford! The feed back for this was to keep to the truth of castleford life and it's old ways but express them with different characters for each one.

Outline briefly how you intend to generate the final deliverable artwork. Consider media, method design and application. What are the next steps required in developments and refinement of your poster?

I will start by researching into more depth on both themes working out whitch is the stronger idea to develop into a final piece. I will experiment with different medias, colours and techniques to find the right style to express my images.
I will then experiment and document layout to find the best way to desplay the images on to a poster.

Studio brief 1

• today's brief group crit feed back

• the feed back I got today was helpful. I feel I have a understanding of whitch themes and ideas worked and whitch didn't. The feed back has put me on the right track and gave me the confidence and motivation to push forward with my brief.

Studio brief 1

• some of my ideas for the poster for the brief

• every day life. Express by Character Neb

• animals A to Z of

• life of castleford

• A to Z of beers, but for every one I will draw as if the character Neb has drank one and has he drinks one I will illustrate the the out come to each drink! Watching him getting drunk.

•Some of my ideas required a character  to suggest the motion of my theme, I felt it would be more interactive and more playful if I was to use the same character through out the poster for each illustration. I decided to use my mask I created ( the first project I posted) to create this character

Observational drawing

• screwed up blue paper roll

• When drawing from observational you will be working in natural light or even a well light room, because of this you will see the value of the subject. The light brings out detail, colour, depth and tones that you wouldn't be able to notice from a screen or book. You can observe the object better by getting up close or even walking around it to understand shape and form and how the object sits on its surface.

• Drawing observational allows you to move the object into the righ position that your looking for, or even to be able to position your self around the object.

• Observational drawing with a moving subject such as people walking through a busy street, you can capture the moment. You can express the atmosphere because your experiencing your self in the moment

Discovery center. Visual language

I'm

Concentrating on the shape and form of the horse. Thick out lines and bold shapes of shades to express muscle and facile features.

Ink pen. Study of a pair a of guns. Again keeping it simple and concentrating on shape and form but this time exaggerating the solidness of steel on the shafts and barrels to express weight and material.

figure drawing is one of my strong points. I am trying to challenge my self and keep away from using shading as a source of information. I drew the picture with loose line work and creating a negative space to make the picture

Man knelt.
Elephant.
Monkey skull

Elephant skull. Thought I would draw a more detailed more my style elephant skull to compare to the experiments Iv been doing.

I proffer the loser drawings off the two it's more attractive and more visually challenging, it makes the eye work harder  when looking at it! Was hard for me to keep away from shading and detail but now I'm comfortable experimenting and pushing my skills a way I would never dare.
 Roman busk.
Bill the Hipo.

Pencil is a forgiving media, ink is very unforgiving and perminont. I drew the Hipo in few lines as possible, doing it in ink creates confidence and makes you less attached to your work.
